Headache
Treatment in the home
· Take painkillers in recommended doses (e.g. paracetamol, aspirin, ibuprofen). Do not give aspirin to children under 12 years old.
· Rest in a darkened room
When to go to the doctors Go IMMEDIATELY if;
· Your headache is following a head injury
· It is a very severe headache which has started suddenly
· If you also have symptoms of drowsiness, a dislike to light, a rash which doesn’t disappear if you press it with a glass, or have pain and stiffness in the back of the neck
Go as soon as possible if;
· You have other symptoms such as vomiting, visual disturbance, weakness or numbness and pins and needles
· If your headache is aggravated by coughing or moving or lowering the head and has persisted for more than three days
· If it continues to get worse after three days
- It’s always there when you wake up
