The Practice Nurses
Sister Melanie Jennings SRN
Nurse Catherine Wallwork
One of our Practice Nurses is available by appointment every morning and
most afternoons. They are able to give advice on smoking, diet, exercise
and immunisation, in addition to screening for raised blood pressure,
contraceptive advice and reviews, well woman/well man reviews, wound
care, ear irrigation and many other aspects. Women are offered cervical
smear tests and instruction in breast self-examination. For immunisation
and general travel advice, please make an appointment at least six weeks
before intended travel.
Sister Jennings who holds a Diploma in Asthma and Diabetes runs the
Asthma and Diabetes Clinic in conjunction with the Doctors along with
COPD reviews.
Health Care Assistants

Claire Perusset
Ginny and Claire support the GPs and Nurses in routine clinical work
including taking bloods, blood pressure and doing routine health checks.
Claire also supports our Health Visitor Morag Fanshaw in running her
clinics and liaison with Patients.
Community Matron
Sara Land
The community matron post was established in April 2006 and is a role
which has been introduced by the Government to recognise and help those
patients with long-term illnesses.
Sara is the named nurse for a number of patients and their carers who
have more than one long-term illness. The aim is to help these patients
manage their conditions more effectively and prevent regular admissions
to Hospital.
Sara is also the Nursing Team Leader for the surgery and, as a trained
Minor Illness Specialist runs regular Minor Illness surgeries in the
morning as well as the Teenage Health Clinic on a Monday afternoon from
4-6pm. She will also visit patients when returning home following a
heart attack.
Sara trained at the Middlesex Hospital in London, qualifying in 1982.
She is SRN RM RHV, a Minor Illness Specialist and Family Planning
Trained.

Health Care Assistant Elaine Gunter
Our District Nurses visit to carry out dressings, removal of stitches,
administer injections, carry out blood tests and annual reviews for
chronic diseases such as Diabetes and CHD. They are proficient in leg
care and can offer advice and carry out tests to ascertain the extent
and treatment for leg problems. They liaise closely with other members
of the multi-disciplinary team in order to maintain the most up to date
care and continuity.
They provide care for acutely and chronically ill patients and play a
key role for those who have terminal illness. They can also help with
continence promotion.
Health Visitor
Morag Fanshaw
Morag is qualified to offer advice on the health related problems of all
age groups. She specialises in children under five, giving advice on
feeding, development, vaccinations and behavioural management.
She is also responsible for many public health related issues.
